Dinner in the Dark Event Photo - 2On Saturday, June 22, Summit Technical Solutions (STS) sponsored the Homeward Pikes Peak inaugural Dinner in the Dark fundraiser. Attended by Miriam Neel, STS Social Media Manager, the evening’s program illuminated the work of Homeward Pikes Peak (HPP), a nonprofit organization in Colorado Springs who raises awareness and support for people overcoming barriers, entering recovery, and changes lives of individuals in our community in meaningful ways. HPP helps restore dignity, independence, and self-worth in their clients who have faced the challenge of homelessness or substance use disorders through their Harbor House programs, and provides permanent housing support specifically to veterans through their Housing First program. Additionally, HPP’s Project Detour and Bloom House programs empower women to overcome substance use disorders, homelessness, and involvement with the criminal justice system by nurturing families through safe and supportive sober living, nurturing community connections, and achieving self-sufficiency.

HPP clients (L to R) Gareth, Dominique, and Milton, joined by Beth Roalstad, Executive Director of Homeward Pikes Peak. The clients shared their stories of recovery and finding dignity with the support of Homeward Pikes Peak.

The event featured videos sharing the stories of three HPP clients, photographed on the left, who have either achieved sobriety, stability for their family, or found dignity after homelessness through the support of an organization who truly cares about helping their clients. Additionally, HPP demonstrated how a community could achieve something better by coming together through a powerful call-to-action by local CEO, Jim Johnson of GE Johnson Construction. Johnson shared his belief that businesses in Colorado Springs should play a bigger role in ensuring the success and prosperity of the community by supporting Homeward Pikes Peak and other vital organizations who create a fabric of support to those in need.

How do we end homelessness? One person at a time; through healthy and supportive relationships with friends, family, and community.
